Accreditation is the review by an agency recognised as competent in the area of expertise and authorised to adjudicate on the capacity and performance of the entity it assesses. Medical education Accreditation bodies have a regional or international jurisdiction as determined by the accreditation agencies recognition by the governments of the territories where the medical schools are located. Listings of recognised medical school accrediting agencies and which countries accept their reviews are listed by FAIMER and WFME .
IUHS is fully accredited by the St.Kitts and Nevis Accreditation Board
Licensure to practice medicine in a specific jurisdiction requires the graduate to pass the necessary local licensing examinations, the graduates school to be accredited and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) and meet any other local regulations such as a minimum postgraduate training requirement.
IUHS's accreditation along with its listing in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) makes IUHS students eligible to sit for the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) and Medical Council of Canada (MCC) examinations. Graduates who have successfully passed Step 1, Step 2 CK and the Clinical Skills Pathways of the USMLE are then eligible for ECFMG certification. USMLE Step 3 is taken following graduation. Graduates who have successfully passed the MCC Qualifying Examination 1 (QE1) and Qualifying Examination 2 (QE2) are eligible to receive the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC). IUHS graduates are licensed throughout the US and Canada (please see alumni map).

Likewise other jurisdictions have licensing and regulatory bodies that oversee medical practice. Examples are the General Medical Council of the UK, the Australian Medical Council, The National Medical Commission of India, and most African countries have a Health Professions Council named for the country. IUHS graduates have registered, sat exams and been licensed in those and more territories (please see alumni map).
